Dr. Anna I. Clayton
Dr. Anna I. Clayton is an instructional designer, educational researcher, and academic consultant with several decades of experience across secondary and postsecondary education. Her work centers on expanding access to rigorous academic opportunities, strengthening instructional design practices, and building pathways between K–12 and higher education.
She holds a Master’s degree in Special Education from the University of Miami and a Doctorate in Instructional Technology and Distance Education from Nova Southeastern University. Her professional and scholarly work is grounded in accessibility, equity, and evidence-based instructional design, with a particular emphasis on blended and online learning environments.
Anna I. Clayton has played a key role in developing and expanding dual enrollment and advanced academic programs, creating opportunities for high school students to engage in college-level coursework and earn postsecondary credit before graduation. She has worked closely with distance education partners at University of Florida to support high school student participation in advanced online coursework, helping to remove institutional barriers and broaden access to university-level learning experiences.
Her doctoral research focused on parental experiences in blended learning and addressed a significant gap in the educational technology literature. The study examined how families navigate digital learning systems, manage online tools, and support student learning, particularly in urban and underserved communities. Her findings underscore the significance of parental confidence, access to resources, and effective school–family communication in enhancing student engagement and academic outcomes. This work has direct relevance for higher education institutions engaged in online learning, outreach, and dual enrollment initiatives.
Throughout her career, Anna I. Clayton has served as a science educator, curriculum specialist, curriculum coach, special education professional, department leader, academy leader, and an instructional designer. She is recognized for achieving some of the highest student passing rates in Miami-Dade County while working in complex instructional settings. Her experience encompasses curriculum and course design, implementation of blended and online learning, faculty and teacher support, and academic program development.
Anna I. Clayton brings a strategic, systems-oriented approach to her work and is known for translating complex academic and instructional challenges into clear, actionable solutions. She collaborates closely with educators, administrators, and institutional partners to design learning environments and academic pathways that are rigorous, accessible, and aligned with long-term educational goals.
